Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Direct Primary Care (DPC)?
A: Direct Primary Care is a membership-based model where you pay your doctor directly through a flat monthly fee. At Ke Ola Noa, this means no insurance headaches, no rushed visits—just personalized care when you need it.

Q: What does "Ke Ola Noa" mean?
A: To us, Ke Ola Noa means “The Life Without Limits” or “The Free Life.” It’s an homage to our first-born son and reflects our mission to provide whole-person care without barriers—so you can live your fullest, healthiest life.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: Membership at Ke Ola Noa is $200/month for most patients. Pricing is clarified on our Membership page. Discounts are available for families or members who refer others to join our practice!

Q: What does the membership include?
A: Your membership covers:

  • Unlimited in-person and virtual visits

  • Extended, unrushed appointments

  • Same- or next-day access when needed

  • Direct communication with your doctor via text, phone, or email

  • Annual physicals and lifestyle/wellness planning

  • Chronic disease management

  • Basic in-office procedures (like EKGs, minor skin procedures, joint injections, etc.)

Q: Do I still need insurance?
A: Yes—for anything outside of primary care, like hospitalizations, surgeries, or specialist visits, you’ll still want insurance or a health-sharing plan. Ke Ola Noa replaces the primary care part of your coverage.

Q: What about labs, imaging, or medications?
A: We help our patients access lower cash-pay prices for labs, imaging, and many common medications—often at a significant discount compared to traditional routes using insurance. Nonetheless, patients will still have the option to use their insurance to pay for these services.

Q: Can I join Ke Ola Noa if I have Medicare or Medicaid?
A: Yes! We’re happy to care for Medicare and Medicaid patients. You can still become a member at our standard monthly rate. All we ask is that you sign a waiver stating you won’t bill your insurance provider for any services received at Ke Ola Noa. This keeps things simple, transparent, and aligned with the Direct Primary Care model.

Q: Will this save me money?
A: For many patients—especially those with high-deductible plans or no insurance—DPC can reduce overall healthcare costs by avoiding co-pays, deductibles, and surprise bills for routine care. Our goal is to keep you healthy to keep you out of the emergency room and hospital, and decrease the amount of medications and procedures you need in the future!

Q: What if I can't afford the $200/month membership?
A: We believe everyone deserves access to quality care. If the standard membership fee is a financial barrier, please reach out to us. Ke Ola Noa offers limited financial assistance or sliding-scale options for those in need, depending on availability. We’re happy to have an open, compassionate conversation and see how we can help.

Q: Is Ke Ola Noa a concierge practice?
A: No, and here’s a blogpost with our perspective. While we offer personalized, high-access care like concierge medicine, Ke Ola Noa is more affordable and we practice medicine that is backed by research and science. Our goal is to make quality care accessible and sustainable.

Q: Can I join if I’m healthy?
A: Absolutely. Ke Ola Noa is all about proactive, preventive care. Whether you're managing chronic issues or just want to stay well, we’re here to help you thrive.

Q: What if I need to cancel my membership?
A: You can cancel your membership at any time—no long-term contracts, no cancellation fees. We just ask for a written notice. If you decide to return to Ke Ola Noa in the future, we’d love to welcome you back! Please note that a one time- $150 re-enrollment fee likely will apply.
